Candy or sweets

Was thinking last night that alot of people have a sweet tooth in this world. To me, candy would be a great barter item to either be able to make or have on hand. Hard tack, chocolate or cocoa powder, etc. I am not sure on the long term storage of finished candy so maybe making to order so to speak might be best??

Any thoughts?

I don't know the shelf life of chocolate, but honey never spoils.

Good quick read on honey. Honey can also help with hunger pangs and is rather weight efficient, when considering honey's potency as a sweetener, med, and it's lack of spoilage. Though, I wouldn't use a glass container for your BOB.

Grandma's had the same damn bowl of hard candies on display for 30 years, and its not moldy yet. just gotta break off a piece from the bottom so it's not dusty and try not to break off a piece of tooth when you eat it!:D

I know I'm going to need to fill a bucket with Hershey bars or I'll go nuts.

I've put back a bit of hard candy. Good diversion or reward for the kids when the SHTF. They will need a all the comfort they can when things go bad- Candy is an easy thing that you can do for them.

HAHA...I had the same thoughts in my head. The 3 year old candy canes or jolly ranchers. They are starting to melt and stick to the wrapper type stuff...HAHA.

All kidding aside I know while not good for you, some people get jacked all out of wack without a little fix of chocolate like people do with smokes. I was thinking if you could long term store it in powder form or somehow vacuum seal it, it might make a great barter food item. Maybe do the same with hard candy/gum. Otherwise store what it would take to make it then batch it out for trading.

It's worth the effort to arrange some garden room for sugar beets. Very easy to grow, I'm told.

Salesman: Gee Ms. Smith, I've sat here and eaten this whole bowl of peanuts while we talked about your order.

Granny Smith: Oh, that's ok Sonny boy, ever since I had my teeth took out, I cain't do nothing but suck the chocolate off'n em.

White sugar never goes bad, and when sugar is dear, rock candy will be a big seller again.
